“The good news is that we are about to overcome the El Niño phenomenon (…) We have managed to have favorable reservoir levels. e have had an unexpected rain that has been quite important,” he explained.

However, he stressed that we should not let our guard down, “the task is for us all to guarantee energy planning . We are going to involve

renewable energies, we have had a 30-year model, we must take steps in energy plans focused on energy security.”

“We would have to say the importance of energy for productive and economic development. We all have the responsibility to guarantee energy security for prosperity ,” insisted the head of the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Energy planning with difficulties

Regarding the country’s energy planning, Camacho highlighted that it was received with difficulties, “part of what we have been doing is solving many problems that were raised in the past through auctions. There are different signs of planning, some are auctions, others are advances, we must advance in other types of planning.”

“ We have to have an energy planning signal that allows us to resolve, private and public mechanisms that allow us to finance energy, it is a part that we have to work on,” he noted.

Furthermore, he insisted that there are “very specific situations that we have been resolving. We have been showing signs in each of the sectors to guarantee legal security in terms of investments. «We have been coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for the development of the country.»

The key: “everyone puts in”

For his part, Camilo Sánchez, president of the National Association of Public Services and Communications Companies, Andesco, highlighted in his speech that the key is to continue with ‘everyone contributes’.

“It is not just the Government, it is the public, mixed and private companies doing the work and of course with the user as the center. With the El Niño phenomenon, there were fears about the energy supply, but currently it is being overcome and it is also thanks to the effort we have made as a sector,» he commented.

“The country has energy potential”

The president of the National Association of Generating Companies ANDEG, Alejandro Castañeda, considers that there is no risk of shortages. «Thermoelectric plants have taken steps to have the key fuels to generate reliable energy. The SIN is required in times of water stress to preserve adequate reservoir levels.»

“The thermals are a firm support for the SIN, especially in the face of El Niño. Between May (2023) and January (2024) its participation went from 45 GWh/day to 70 GWh/day in the SIN = approximately 33%. in addressing the demand,” he detailed in the middle of his intervention in ANTI Thematic Forums.

Castañeda insisted that the country has energy resources and potential. “Our vision is that we need companies in the sector to carry out this project. “There are companies in the Pacific that have not developed enough and that means injecting public resources.”

“The institutions and planning measures are taking place in terms of renewable energies. “We have managed to overcome many emergencies and circumstances, we must work on more solid measures that allow us to resolve in the medium term,” he said.

“Diversity is good for the country”

The director of Ser Colombia, Alexandra Hernández, highlighted that the current challenge is the structural change with the entry of renewable energies. «Consumption is growing, in three years we will be in trouble if new generation capacities do not enter.»

“Current sources have to be maintained, there must be new technologies, each energy source has its strength and the country benefits from diversity,” he noted.

Likewise, he highlighted that, at this time, “there is a generating park that is being replaced from a few sources to a great diversity of projects, important regulatory changes are required.”
